Vocational evidence is a key component of a successful claim or appeal for a total disability rating based on individual unemployability (TDIU). This webinar covers important issues to consider when obtaining vocational evidence, including the qualifications of an expert and the methodology of vocational assessments. The presenters address vocational issues using VA terminology; consider specific challenges of cases involving mental limitations; and discuss marginal employment and protected work environments. They also analyze the impact of the CAVC’s decision in Ray v. Wilkie, 31 Vet.App. 58 (2019), which addressed the economic and noneconomic components of what it means to be “unable to secure and follow substantially gainful employment.”
